The Online Marathon «Universal Educational Materials for Distance and Blended Learning of Children with Special Educational Needs» is About to Start

The online marathon «Universal Educational Materials for Distance and Blended Learning of Children with Special Educational Needs» starts on 26 October. The marathon is held by the Learning Together project in collaboration with the Institute of Education Content Modernization of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The online marathon seeks to promote adaptation and modification of the content of academic subjects (integrated courses), textbooks and learning materials, in particular for children with special educational needs (SEN) as well as to provide quality education for all children, including children with SEN.

During the marathon, experts will also introduce participants to the experience of Finnish schools in adapting and modifying academic subjects (integrated courses), learning materials and textbooks, including the ones for students with SEN.

«Modern textbooks should focus on the child’s life and develop important cognitive skills. Learning materials are only one of educational process components. During our marathon, we propose to give a new meaning to the role of a modern textbook in the process of developing 21st century skills. We have prepared a lot of case studies and involved an incredible team of experts who will help each participant of the marathon move forward to modern standards of textbook writing,» says Jarkko Lampiselkä, CTA of the Learning Together project.

The streaming will take place on the YouTube channel of the Learning Together project. Participation in the marathon is free of charge, but subject to mandatory registration at this link.

For the online marathon we invite:

  • teachers who work with children with SEN, in particular within the framework of inclusive education;
  • specialists (consultants) of Inclusive Resource Centers;
  • consultants of Teacher Professional Development Centres;
  • authors, editors, publishers and designers of educational materials.

The educational marathon consists of a series of webinars with presentations and several case studies to be followed by discussions. The duration of the program is 30 hours (1 ECTS).

The goals of the marathon include, among other things, the development and implementation of a 30-hour training course (1 ECTS) for teachers who work with children with SEN, specialists (consultants) of Inclusive Resource Centers, consultants of Teacher Professional Development Centres, authors, editors, publishers and designers of educational materials.

After completing the course, based on the results of final testing the participants will receive certificates, confirming their professional development.

The training course will be developed in accordance with the requirements of the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 800 dated 21 August 2019 “Some Issues of Teaching and Academic Staff In-service Training” taking into account the requirements of the State Standard for Basic Secondary Education, approved by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 898 dated 30 September 2020.
