We have held training sessions on teaching Ukrainian as the state language for methodologists of In-Service Teacher Training Institutions and teachers of Ukrainian in primary schools of Zakarpatiia and Chernivtsi regions where the language of instruction is Romanian and Hungarian.

The training sessions organized by the Learning Together project were held during 14-16 December in an online format. They were designed to improve methodologists and teachers’ pedagogical skills to apply modern methods of teaching Ukrainian as the state language to students.

 During the training, the trainees covered the following topics:

  • «Motivation and involvement of students in Ukrainian lessons through games, songs, dialogues and role-playing»;
  • «Reveal your personality: how to develop children’s strengths»;
  • «Assessment in the NUS: innovations, challenges and the implementation practice»;
  • «Assessment for learning: a case study».

In particular, experts explained why games, songs and role-playing can be efficient tools for learning. For instance, games can create emotional bonds, which help learn and memorize. And role-playing prepares students for conversations and situations, providing a framework for statements and dialogues. At the same time, music and singing stimulate memory, and singing in a second language improves pronunciation. In addition, songs help form and enrich students’ vocabulary and knowledge of idiomatic expressions as well as introduce them to culture.

The sessions devoted to assessment in the NUS were also valuable. The trainers shared practical tips with the trainees on how to implement formative assessment in the educational process, offered various tools for different types of assessment, analyzed many examples and situations that teachers face in their daily routine.

As a result of successful completion of the training sessions the trainees will receive relevant certificates.
